If a particular page on a site does not load for some reason or if a link is not working, the visitor will see an error page with a generic message. The page shall have nothing in common with the rest of the site, which can make the visitor leave your site. A solution in this case is a feature offered by some web hosting service providers - the option to set up your own custom error pages which will have exactly the same design as your Internet site and that can contain any text or images you want based on the specific error. There are four well-known errors which could occur and they involve these so-called HTTP status codes - 400, when your browser sends a bad request to the server and it can't be processed; 401, in case you are supposed to log in to see some web page, but you haven't done so yet; 403, if you do not have a permission to view a specific page; and 404, in case a link that you've clicked leads to a file that doesn't exist. In each of these scenarios, site visitors shall be able to see your personalized content rather than a generic error page.

Custom Error Pages in Shared Hosting

You'll be able to set up customized error pages for each of your Internet sites effortlessly if you use any of our shared hosting packages. This could be done through the Hosted Domains section of the Hepsia Control Panel, which comes with all accounts and once you go there, you can set your personalized pages independently for any domain or subdomain. You should upload the files to your account before you start and input the links to them during the process. This feature could be de-activated anytime and the options you shall be able to to choose from are a standard page from our system or a default Apache web server page. Personalized error pages can be set with an .htaccess file as well. The file should be put in the domain or subdomain folder and it should contain some system code and links to the pages. If you're not tech-savvy, you may copy the whole content you'll need for the file from our Help section.

Custom Error Pages in Semi-dedicated Hosting

If you host your websites in a semi-dedicated server account from us, you'll be able to set custom made error pages for each of them with ease via our custom Hepsia hosting Control Panel. With only a couple of mouse clicks inside the Hosted Domains section, you'll be able to modify the default setting from a system page to a tailor-made one for any of the 4 error types. All you need to do is provide a link to each and every file that you've uploaded before that and then save the change. If needed, you will be able to revert this change whenever you want and in exactly the same way. If you'd like, you could use an .htaccess file as well. It should be created/uploaded within the domain or subdomain folder belonging to the internet site whose error pages you would like to change and the content for such a file can be found in our Help article on this matter.
