SSH, or Secure Shell, is a network protocol which is used to connect to a server and conduct different tasks through a command line. The protocol is popular with many skilled users, because the data transmitted over it is encrypted, so it may not be intercepted on the way by a third party. SSH access could be used for a lot of things with regards to the type of hosting account. With a shared hosting account, for example, SSH is one of several ways to import/export a database or to upload a file if the website hosting server allows for it. When you have a virtual or a dedicated server, SSH can be used for practically everything - you can install software or restart particular services such as the web server or the database server which run on the machine. SSH is employed mainly with UNIX-like Platforms, but there are clients that allow you to use the protocol if your personal computer is using a different Operating System as well. The connection is established on TCP port 22 by default and the remote hosting server always listens for incoming connections on that port though many service providers change it for security reasons.

All the information that you need to connect will be conveniently listed within the SSH section of the CP - the hostname, the username and the port number. You can even set what password to use from the same location and you'll be able to change it whenever you want. All the commands that are allowed are listed inside the Help articles which we've prepared for you, together with examples of the syntax that you should use. An additional advantage of allowing SSH access to your account is that you will be able to upload files via an SFTP connection.

SSH Telnet in VPS Hosting

The virtual private server packages that we offer include SSH access by default, not as an additional upgrade or a function that you have to activate. As soon as your new server is ready, you will be able to connect and start working on your content through the login details that you've entered during the order process. A copy of the SSH credentials will be sent to you via e mail too. Since your VPS shall be isolated from the other ones on the physical server, there are no limitations in regards to what you can or can't do using SSH. You'll be able to download, set up and manage any piece of software that will run on a Linux machine, reboot the whole server or simply a particular software component, and work with files, folders and databases without restrictions. All you will require for this is a console or an SSH client on your end.
